Gov. Rick Perry today issued the following statement on the ongoing conflict in Gaza: “Hamas must cease its attacks on Israel. No other nation on earth would be expected to stand idly by while a neighbor fired missiles and mortars into its cities, but Israel is being held to an unreasonable, irresponsible standard of restraint. Instead, the world community should be united in its support of Israel’s right to defend its citizens and clear in its condemnation of Hamas. - Dec 31, 2008 - Gov. Perry Names Witt Director of Disaster Recovery and Renewal
AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry today announced Ellen Witt to replace Brian Newby as director of the Division of Disaster Recovery and Renewal within the Office of the Governor. The division will provide support for the Governor’s Commission for Disaster Recovery and Renewal, which is an advisory panel of public and private sector experts that will guide the state’s long-term recovery and renewal efforts in the wake of the devastating 2008 hurricane season. The division will also continue working with local officials to help ensure communities are optimally positioned to rebuild after future catastrophic events. - Dec 19, 2008 - Gov. AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry today appealed the Federal Emergency Management Administration's (FEMA) denial to extend for 18 months 100 percent reimbursement of emergency protective measures, and debris removal, and other Public Assistance work areas (Categories A-G) for Hurricane Ike. FEMA notified the Governor's Office on November 26 that only six months of debris removal (Category A) was approved for 100 percent reimbursement. - Dec 19, 2008 - Gov. Perry Grants Clemency to Seven
AUSTIN — Gov. Rick Perry today granted clemency to seven individuals after each case was favorably recommended for clemency by the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles. - Dec 18, 2008 - Caterpillar Moving Primary Manufacturing Facility To Texas
AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst and Speaker Tom Craddick today announced that Caterpillar Inc., a Fortune 50 company, will move one of its primary global assembly, test & paint facilities to Texas, creating more than 1,400 jobs. The state will invest $10 million through the Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF) in the company as a deal-closing incentive for the consolidation and movement of its manufacturing and testing facilities to Seguin, which will generate $169.7 million in capital investment. The project is the second largest in terms of job creation and investment this biennium. Texas was in competition with South Carolina and Mexico for this facility. - Dec 17, 2008 - Gov. AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry today requested that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) extend the registration deadline until Jan. 10 for Hurricane Ike victims to apply for individual assistance. The current registration deadline for Ike victims ends Friday.
