Who we are
"Any committee is only as good as the most knowledgeable, determined and vigorous person on it. There must be somebody who provides the flame."- Lady Bird Johnson,
former U.S. First Lady & 1984 Texas Women's Hall of Fame honoree
Established in 1967 by then-Texas Governor John Connally, the Governor's Commission for Women has been serving as a connection between Texas women and their state government for over three decades.
The Commission's mission is to promote opportunities for Texas women through:
- outreach - being present and active in community efforts and events;
- education - helping women learn more about the issues affecting them;
- research - discovering and digging deeper into key issues for Texas women; and
- referral services - helping connect Texas women with the information and resources they need to thrive.
