Gov. Perry Visits Texas Troops in Iraq
January 06, 2009AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry today met with Texas troops while on a trip to Iraq hosted by the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD). Perry also presented Iraq Campaign Medals to six Texas guardsmen during a ceremony today in Iraq. Also on the DOD trip are Washington Gov. Christine Gregoire and New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine.

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry today announced Ellen Witt to replace Brian Newby as director of the Division of Disaster Recovery and Renewal within the Office of the Governor. The division will provide support for the Governor’s Commission for Disaster Recovery and Renewal, which is an advisory panel of public and private sector experts that will guide the state’s long-term recovery and renewal efforts in the wake of the devastating 2008 hurricane season. Rick Perry today appealed the Federal Emergency Management Administration's (FEMA) denial to extend for 18 months 100 percent reimbursement of emergency protective measures, and debris removal, and other Public Assistance work areas (Categories A-G) for Hurricane Ike. AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst and Speaker Tom Craddick today announced that Caterpillar Inc., a Fortune 50 company, will move one of its primary global assembly, test & paint facilities to Texas, creating more than 1,400 jobs. The state will invest $10 million through the Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF) in the company as a deal-closing incentive for the consolidation and movement of its manufacturing and testing facilities to Seguin, which will generate $169.7 million in capital investment. The project is the second largest in terms of job creation and investment this biennium. Texas was in competition with South Carolina and Mexico for this facility. - Dec 17, 2008 - Gov.
