    Gov. Perry touted several programs that will help our veterans save time and money as they work toward a degree, getting our best and brightest back into the workplace as quickly as possible.

  • Focus on Higher Education


    During an appearance in San Antonio, Gov. Rick Perry underscored the importance of higher education to the future prosperity of Texas, and reiterated his commitment to making higher education more affordable, accountable and accessible for Texans.

  • Border Crisis


    Gov. Perry took to television to discuss a major surge of unaccompanied minors illegally crossing the border into the U.S. over the past several months. Current federal policy is encouraging more and more young people to attempt the hazardous journey, often with disastrous, or even fatal results.

  • Texas Budget Compact


    With the Texas economy strong, now is the time to hit the reset button on our budgetary process to ensure our future is as strong as our present. That’s why Gov. Perry unveiled his Texas Budget Compact, a collection of five basic conservative principles that will keep our economy growing—and businesses hiring-- for many years to come.

  • Save the C-130s


    Gov. Perry was joined by members of Congress and the State Legislature as he called on the DOD to reverse a disastrous Air Force decision to move life-saving C-130s to Montana.

    Gov. Rick Perry touted Texas' efforts to help veterans enter the workforce more quickly, highlighting Central Texas College and other community college districts around the state that have implemented the College Credit for Heroes program. The governor first called for the creation of the program in June 2010, when he established a comprehensive veterans' initiative in advance of the legislative session.

    USAF Decision Puts Gulf Coast Lives in Danger
    As Hurricane Ike neared the Texas coast in 2008, hundreds of hospital patients and nursing home residents were in harm's way, facing a difficult escape from the storm's path. That's when the C-130s of the 136th Airlift Wing based in Fort Worth, Texas, went into action. That year, for the first time in U.S. history, C-130s were utilized to help move patients to safety ahead of a storm's arrival. In all, between Hurricanes Ike and Hurricane Gustav, 800 people were airlifted to safety.

    Federal Government Unable to Deal with Surge of Minors
    Over the first six months of the federal fiscal year, more than 5,200 unaccompanied minors crossed the border illegally into the United States. That figure represents a surge of more 90 percent over the same period last year, with more than 1,300 children arriving in March alone. Most of them, 80 percent in fact, are coming in through Texas.
