Sammons Jazz is the only regular ongoing jazz performance series in the Dallas-Fort Worth area featuring local jazz artists. If you enjoy jazz, you'll probably enjoy this showcase of local jazz artists in an intimate, relaxed, non-commercial and smoke-free setting . . . and at a nominal price for the evening! Sammons Jazz performances are developed around a theme (for example, a be-bop night or a jazz vocal night) and feature two performing groups; the fall series of Sammons Jazz runs from September through December; the spring series from February through May; Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and the show begins at 7:30, ending by 10:00 p.m; there is a short intermission between the two groups; and many patrons appreciate the smoke-free environment of Sammons Jazz. Refreshments and valet parking included in ticket price. As an adjunct to Sammons Jazz, the Center has started a new series called Sammons Cabaret, taking place on the third Thursday of each month from February-May. See web site for details.

I've Made a Record...Now What? if offering a special management session this year, with three managers who work with some of Texas' hottest acts: George Couri of Triple 8 Management, Howie Edelman of Durango Artist Management, and Denise Nichols of The Primacy Firm in Nashville. These managers have worked with some of the hottest acts in Texas, and will share their approaches to bringing creative vision to the marketplace and maximizing each artist's strengths. In addition to the management session, the seminar agenda includes sessions on using social media, getting radio airplay, "Fan funding" and eating right on the road. Sessions cover business-related matters for recording artists, musicians, songwriters, promoters-anyone making music in Texas. This year's Keynote Interview is with Pat Green, who shares ups and downs of the pursuit of his art and stories from the roads he's traveled and the stages he's played. Registration is $129.00 per person and includes all seminar sessions, seminar workbook, and Dave & Buster's lunch. The Festival will take place Friday February 3rd through Sunday, February 5th at the Austin Moose Lodge #1735 in East Austin, featuring a full lineup of legendary conjunto performers each day. Music begins at 7pm on Friday and Saturday, and Noon on Sunday. The schedule includes Austin-area conjuntos Los Pinkys, Conjunto Romo and Los Texas Wranglers, as well as a who’s who of performers from all over south Texas. Among the legends scheduled to play are Bene Medina, Oscar Hernandez, Los Aguilares, Chano Cadena, Gilberto Perez, Rene Joslin and Mingo Saldivar. The lineup also includes Smiley y La Fuerza Musical, Thoze Guyz and Conjunto Calidad, as well as Joe Gonzales and Ruben Rivera. Saturday night features the special farewell performance of Austin’s own Jesse y Beto Duran y Los Aguilillas. Sunday’s stellar lineup includes Los Hermanos Cortez from Houston and recent hall of famer Boni Mauricio. The event also features a conjunto photo exhibit by Rolando Medina, and a food drive for the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas.

Carnaval Brasileiro is now the largest INDOOR Brazilian carnaval ball in the known universe. Live music, wacky costumes and non-stop dancing make this Austin's biggest, and longest running party. Local act Academicos Da Opera consists of 35 drummers and 15 dancers in totally nutty costumes.

The TMEA is an organization of more than 13,000 members dedicated to promoting public awareness of music education in the schools of Texas and stimulating professional growth among its members. In addition to sponsoring teacher training sessions on the regional level, the TMEA produces an annual clinic/convention each February that draws more than 25,000 musicians, teachers and members of the music industry. The TMEA Annual Clinic/Convention offers over 200 teaching workshops, dozens of concerts by performing groups, and over 1,100 exhibit hall booths. In addition, hundreds of high school music students from all across Texas come for four days of rehearsals with nationally known clinicians. Their experience concludes with one of ten different All-State concerts.

The Lamardi Gras celebration is a fundraiser for the Lamar Volunteer Fire Department (LVFD) and is hosted by the LVFD. The event is open at 5 p.m. on February 17, 2012, until 10 p.m. Hours of operation on February 18, 2012, are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The Lamardi Gras features terrific Cajun-style foods, beer/wine, Mardi Gras souvenirs, live music, casino, Chinese auction, live auction, and vendors. The highlight of the event is the parade that begins at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 18th. Parade participants toss beads to people on the parade route. The much-anticipated, annual Houston tradition of Brazilian Carnaval (now in its 5th year) erupts on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Vue Nightclub. This celebratory spectacle and authentic demonstration of Carnaval dance, costuming, music, drink and food occurs on the same day as Brazil's own Carnaval in Rio de Janeiro and Bahia. Huston-Tillotson University Blues and Jazz Concert is an annual event that features local musicians who donate their time in support of the University's goal of providing a quality education for students and enhancing the fledgling instrumental music program for those interested in jazz. The concert is a fundraiser for the University. Musicians donate their time to support the concert. Music will include blues, jazz, big band and more. The Huston-Tillotson Jazz Combo will be featured this year along with musicians familiar to the local community. Dr. James Polk, an alumni of the University, will also be on hand. We consider our 'Fat Tuesday' party the Greatest Free Event on Earth....or at least in Denton County! Celebrating Mardi Gras in Lake Dallas is a tradition handed-down from the famous Duck Inn Restaurant located on Main Street. The Duck Inn was established in the 1940's and ceased operations several years back...but the party lives on. The evening will begin at 5 pm with a New Orleans style parade complete with candy and beads! The Nawlin's Gumbo Kings will be the headline band with their 'Big Easy' style of jazz that's a local favorite to cut loose and enjoy. Mardi Gras style contests, food and fun for the children are all planned for the 2012 event.

Sombrero Festival, Ltd. throws a party for Brownsville the last weekend in February each year during Charro Days. Sombrero Festival is traditionally held in Washington Park in Downtown Brownsville. Sombrero Festival was founded in 1986 to enhance the Charro Days celebration and to provide a venue targeting a broad segment of the community. Our average annual attendance is 40,000. Our gate price is $6.00 for adults and children under 12 are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. We maintain a cooperative agreement with numerous local non-profit groups whereby the group performs volunteer service and we make a donation to their organization. To date, Sombrero Festival, Ltd. has returned approximately $1.5 million back to the community through non-profit organizations and direct donations for tourism, beautification, and recreation venues in the City of Brownsville. Sombrero Festival is staffed completely by volunteers and is a 501 -(c) (4) non-profit organization. Our annual gross income is $350,000, and we retain only start-up money for the next year's festival. The remainder pays our bills and is invested back in the community. Sombrero Festival provides the only marketing venue during Charro Days. Our 3 day event attracts this large segment of the population by featuring well-known Hispanic Artists, local music, unique food-booths, popular events such as the Jalapeno Eating Contest, Waiters Race, Grito Contes, Charro Days Classic 5K Run, Tortilla Frisbee Toss, Hat-Stack Relay, the Chili Cook-off, and Frijolympics (Charro Bean Cookoff). We provide a fenced, secure, and family oriented festival.

Mystic Law Productions is proud to host the 3rd annual Kids Are Alright Fest, presented by VITAMINWATER, on Saturday, February 26 at Riverbend Centre 1:00 p.m. till 2:00 a.m. This event is an all-day music, skateboarding and video gaming festival open to all ages and benefiting the Horse Boy Foundation for Autism (www.horseboyfoundation.org). Throughout the day, the festival will hold various musical acts leading up to a headline show (TBA) and an after party DJ set inside. 11 bands on 2 live music stages, 3 gaming contests, and 3 skating contests with 18 winners receiving over $3500 in cash and prizes will be set up and available to enjoy by all attendees. Food and beverages will be on-site and available to purchase as well. In the afternoon, Educational Panel Sessions will be led by industry experts in the music, gaming and skateboarding industries. They are being programmed by Margaret Moser from the Teen Music Texas Forum. These sessions are open to youths and anyone else interested in the entertainment industry in Austin with close to 1,000 attendees are expected. This is an event for the next generation of young entrepreneurs and aims to encourage local business growth. The primary objective is to educate young individuals on how to effectively produce an entertainment festival, something that is often excluded from classroom curriculum. Bands who are interested in playing on one of the live music stages may submit their information online at booking@thekidsarealrightfest.com. Scheduled Artists include: The Riverboat Gamblers, The Frontier Brothers, Marmalakes, White Leaf, Spyhnx and Federal!State!Loca!.

The Kenneth Threadgill Concert Series honors the memory of the Father of Austin Country Music, Greenville native Kenneth Threadgill. Concerts are presented at the historic 1700 seat Municipal Auditorium in Downtown Greenville. The Series began in 2003 with a concert by two great Texas songwriters, Guy Clark and Bruce Robison. Other past acts include Asleep at the Wheel, Rodney Crowell, Jerry Jeff Walker, Billy Joe Shaver, Chip Taylor and Carrie Rodriguez, Jack Ingram, Max Stalling, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Joe Ely, Terri Hendrix and Lloyd Maines, Junior Brown, Gary P. Nunn, Charlie Robison, Reckless Kelly, Hot Club of Cowtown, Johnny Gimble, The Derailers, Slaid Cleaves, Hayes Carll, Marty Stuart, Jim Lauderdale, Tom Russell, Fred Eaglesmith, Wayne Hancock and others. Three concerts are presented each year, one in the winter, one in the spring and one in the fall. The Series is sponsored by Friends of Main Street, a non-profit organization dedicated to Historic Downtown Greenville.
