The Texas Women's Hall of Fame was created by the Governor's Commission for Women in 1984 as a biennial awards event to honor Texas women who have made significant contributions in areas such as the arts, athletics, business, education, health and leadership.
In 2003, the Commission partnered with Texas Woman's University (TWU) to establish a permanent, physical Hall of Fame. The exhibit is located on the TWU campus in Hubbard Hall, and contains a plaque for each of the more than 100 individual inductees, featuring her biography and photograph. An interactive kiosk is also available to view video clips of inductees.
