Gov. Perry Awards $11.5 Million from State Criminal Justice Planning Funds
AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry awarded more than $11.5 million in grants to 128 programs across Texas that aim to reduce crime and improve the state’s criminal and juvenile justice systems. These grants are awarded through the State Criminal Justice Planning Fund, distributed by the Governor's Criminal Justice Division (CJD).
"Texas is tough on crime and will remain dedicated to equipping our law enforcement and justice systems with the resources needed to make our communities as safe as possible," said Gov. Perry.
The State Criminal Justice Planning Fund supports cost-effective programs that use broad approaches to improving Texas’ criminal and juvenile justice systems. Recipients of the State Criminal Justice Planning Fund grants complement the governor's strategy for creating effective support programs that reduce the number of crimes committed and provide accountability in the criminal justice system.
Each year, CJD awards more than $113 million in grants to fund juvenile justice, criminal justice and victim services programs. The awards may be given to private and public organizations, including local government entities, educational institutions, non-profit organizations, and law enforcement agencies.
The State Criminal Justice Planning funds are awarded to:
