Gov. Perry Appoints Bevers as Interim Inspector General of Texas Health and Human Services Commission

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry appointed Bart Bevers of Round Rock as inspector general of the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) to serve in an interim capacity until the governor decides upon a replacement to carry out the full term. The HHSC oversees the operations of the health and human services system and provides direct administration of several programs, including Medicaid, Children's Health Insurance Program, Family Violence Services and Disaster Assistance.

Bevers most recently served as deputy inspector general for enforcement at the Texas HHSC where he supervised criminal investigations and enforcement activities within the Medicaid Provider Integrity, General Investigations and State Investigations Unit sections. He previously served as an assistant district attorney in the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office and Smith County District Attorney’s Office. Bevers is a member of the Medicaid and Public Assistance Fraud Oversight Task Force, and the Department of Homeland Security Document and Benefit Task Force-Dallas. He is an advisory board member of Young Life-Europe and member of the National White Collar Crime Center. Additionally, Bevers is a member of the State Bar of Texas, Association of Certified Fraud Specialists, and Association of Inspectors General.

Bevers received a bachelor’s degree from Southern Methodist University and law degree from the University of Tulsa, College of Law.
