Columbus, OH 43212

This transparent account permits promoters, artists, and fans to donate money and time with confidence, set charity goals, and verify their contributions. If every promoter, club owner, agent, artist, and music fan donates time or money to make a "network of charity events" happen in different cities over the span of a few weeks, I'm sure we could easily make a large donation of $250,000 or more. If we come together now, we can help these people in their time of need, unite our community, and create a positive way to do something like this in the future.

I manage a New Orleans band, Andi Hoffmann & B-Goes. We are all safe, but scattered over the Southeast. Three of our band members lost everything in the floodwaters. I am looking for gigs. I manage a band that was from Louisiana and now is scattered all over the country due to the evacuation and destruction of our city. We are looking for any help we could receive to keep their music alive. They are a great band with a unique sound. It would be a crime if we let a disaster keep their music from being heard. You can check out their website at http://www.soulmod.com or preview a song at http://www.myspace.com/soulmod

I have created a yahoo group and different musicians have signed up to produce a song called THE HOME PROJECT which was written as a prayer in song from the heart of a homeless, back in 2004. However this song does reflect the situation of the Katrina victims. Please spread this information. The yahoo group is called katrinaconnection and the web site where the song can be heard is: http://www.soundclick.com/liloarboleda

Ron Chavira, Black Hat Design, writes
There has been an outcry for a place where musicians can collaborate on relief efforts. I thought it might be wise to create a Yahoo! Group since none yet exist. If you are a musician that would like to help in this time of National Crisis, please join and encourage other musicians to do so. If we all work together, we can become a viable force. http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/Blues_For_Katrina/ Relief events are already planned and/or are underway in Houston. Check http://www.walkingmanpromotions.com for times and locations At this point, a number of music groups and persons have combined their efforts into what is now The Katrina Music Project -- an effort to entertain those who were forced to evacuate their homes due to Hurricane Katrina and are now being sheltered in San Antonio.Al Sturchio is heading the project's steering committee, which also includes Susan Riley, Debi Clark, Mike Davis, and TMCers Laura Marie Kleffner, Quinn Dixon and Carol Sowa. Don Gardner writes,
Thank you for your letter regarding relief and aid to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Certainly your sensitivity will help alleviate much suffering. However, please be aware that the storm has affected one of Texas's most popular performers, Vince Vance, too. Ironically enough, he recently moved his home and business office for his band, Vince Vance and the Valiants, from Texas to the Gulf Coast in 2003 to be nearer his 84 year old mother who was in need of his support. Waveland, Mississippi was dubbed by the national news media as Ground Zero. His home and office was decimated down to the concrete slab. Every bit of promo, thousands of T-shirts, CDs, DVDs, photos, computers, archives - EVERYTHING he owned was blown away. Fortunately, Vince was away...headed back from shows at Casino Aztar in Indiana. Vince does need help, but would never ask for it himself. So fans and friends have decided to get together to try to assist this great entertainer who has helped countless others with benefits over the years. We, the Friends of Vince Vance, are starting a fund to help Vince get back on his feet so he can once again bring his music, joy, and laughter to fans all over the country. Vince, like many others, is totally homeless and in need of financial assistance to get through the months ahead. Over half of his upcoming concerts are canceled as a result of Katrina's fury. But true to form, Vince has already begun visiting those affected by this storm, and is planning a number of benefits and appearances as he gets back on his own feet. We are determined to see this stand-up man return to the stage in full vigor. If you have any ideas, please, contact me, Don Gardner at 770.445.2342. I am Vince's Manager and a member of the Friends of Vince Vance Committee. We will greatly appreciate any help you may be willing to offer to this great Texan who has dedicated his career to bringing joy to the lives of others. Or you may contact, Vince's attorney, Debbie Adame, chairman of our impromptu committee at: Deborah Adame, Attorney at Law; 603 East Belknap, Suite 105, Fort Worth, TX 76102 817.332.1104. Here is the unique opportunity to help a victim of the storm and a fellow Texan DIRECTLY. 100% of all assistance will go directly to Vince Vance. We really are new at this and would appreciate any direction that you could give us. Thank you for listening to our plea. Please check www.vincevance.com for updates on Vince's situation as they become available. Thank you for your concern and support. PS. To contact Vince directly for verification of this letter: Vince Vance, c/o Jerry & Teresa O'Steen, 1595 Mount Lebanon Road Cedar Hill, Texas 75104; 214.893.0568 Vince's personal cell phone.

T.C. Smythe writes,
The Red Cross is requesting local musicians to volunteer to entertain the folks still living at the Astrodome until the dome is closed. Most of the entertainment is going to be outside on the east side of the structure. They are looking for keyboard/acoustic acts with a fairly small sound system for three benefit concerts a day (27 total). They will provide a small stage on the east side of the dome with 110v and 220v power. No lighting will be required. Blues and cajun/zydeco are especially welcome, but we are beggars, not choosers - we will sign anyone up who applies. At this time, we anticipate 2-hour shows beginning immediately at 11:00am, 3:00pm and 7:00pm each day. Contact T.C. Smythe (832) 715-5226 or tc-ATSPAMAWAY-tcsmythe.com

Carol Sowa writes,
I'm calling on you one more time, looking for help with a new music-related need of the hurricane evacuees still in shelters. TMC received a call today from Red Cross volunteer Mark Caputo of New York, a classical guitarist who is working in a program at the KellyUSA Shelter for Katrina and Rita evacuees in which he's teaching the kids to play the guitar. Problem is he is short on guitars. The children range from 5 to 13 years, so he could use a few full-size guitars, but mainly needs some three-quarter size ones. I might add he said he was told by several sources that the Texas Music Coalition was his best bet for getting the word out and getting some help, so I'm hoping somebody out there can come through with what is needed. I know many of you have been so generous already with your time and talents and some have previously donated music instruments to the evacuees as well, but if there's anyone out there who can donate a guitar for this very worthwhile project, the children at the shelter would greatly appreciate it. If you have a guitar to give, please let me know me mailto:SongLadySA@aol.com as soon as possible and I will get you in touch with Mark about where to take them. And a big "thank you" to all for your past and present help.

Kirt Webster writes,
Country Music Hall of Fame Member, all-time Top 20 best-selling country artist, and Mississippi native Charley Pride and his wife, Rozene, were so devastated to see fellow Mississippi families suffer from Hurricane Katrina that they decided to directly help 40 families by purchasing living necessities for the families that were relocated to the place they now call home, Dallas, Texas. In addition to purchasing 30 box-springs, 30 mattresses, 60 pillows, 30 sets of sheets, towels, toothbrushes, deodorant, soap, and so much more, Charley and his wife also decided to take up donations at concerts to help additional families. In Helena, Montana, this past weekend Pride raised over $3200 in donations. This Mississippi native feels that "if everyone would do just a little bit to help these families…not as one political group, or one race, or one community, but as Americans, then I know we could make this tragedy much less difficult for everyone!" says Charley Pride. Charley and his wife are encouraging everyone to do their part. "I know we can give a little more than others because the Lord has been so good to us, but that's just as much of a reminder of what to do in times like these…even if all you have to offer is you," says Rozene Pride.

Sarah Brown writes,
Hello friends! Sarah Brown here, with an update on "Instruments of Healing",a group helping to replace instruments lost in the recent hurricanes. Many of your received an email last month about our efforts to find musical instruments for hurricane victims who have lost theirs. The response has been great. To date, with your help, we have managed to get many happy musicians up and running , from High School band members to some of the funkiest and most accomplished players from New Orleans. To keep this email short I won't list them all. Here's the thing: We need drums! We need pro level keyboards! When you think about it, it stands to reason. Isn't the Gulf Coast known for its unique rhythm and it's Piano Professors? I'm sending this email specifically to the drummers and keyboard players in my address book, and to others that might have the pleasure of knowing a drummer or key pounder. Would you please forward it to more of the same? Most importantly, send your offers of donations to: instrumentsofhealing-ATSPAMAWAY-yahoo.com We also have gift certificate programs at Music Makers, Strait Music and South Austin Music. This way people who would like to make cash donations can make sure they go towards buying instruments. Our mission statement follows: Instruments of Healing is a collective of Austin citizens and musicians, who have come together in the aftermath of hurricanes Katrina and Rita, to provide musical instruments and related gear to musicians who have lost or left theirs behind as a result of these disasters. We are engaged in an outreach to locate donors who want to contribute to this effort, and working to locate musicians in need of our service. Donations of usable instruments or a contribution of a gift certificate at Music Makers, Strait Music, and South Austin Music, helps us match instruments in a one-on-one process with specific musicians in need - from working professionals, to school band members, to living room strummers. Our goal is to make a difference in the lives of these up-rooted people who are now our new neighbors, by helping the Austin community give the gift of music. For additional info contact Instruments of Healing by email instrumentsofhealing-ATSPAMAWAY-yahoo.com or by phone at 512-452-5995 We are: Sarah Brown - Austin Musician of 23 years, bass teacher, songwriter Laura Patterson -35 year Austinite, music fan, chef and caterer Nicki Cutean -Woodwind repair technician, community organizer Lorrie Singer - musician, audio editor/engineer Carolyn Wonderland - musician, music-related activist , board of directors Instruments for Orphans.

Affordable Sound writes,
Affordable Sound & CD Duplication, LTD. has formally announced discounts extended to our neighbor musician's from Louisiana who were affected by Hurricane Katrina. Having CDs and other media available for the listening public is essential for working musicians. Through the end of the 2005, working Louisiana musicians will receive a 15% discount off all of our CD, DVD, and print products, as well as studio recording and mastering services. In addition, a free barcode will be made available on any size project that is fully packaged. The Austin Music Foundation writes,
AMF Still Seeking Housing for Displaced Musicians. As it becomes more apparent that New Orleans will be uninhabitable for some time, the Austin Music Foundation has teamed up with New Orleans' Tipitina's Foundation to assist displaced musicians. In order to help preserve their livelihood, many musicians have relocated to Austin in order to find work and a place of musical belonging. They want to not only be heard but embraced. We are asking local musicians, music lovers, and all with a big heart who have spare room to open their doors for those New Orleanian musicians whom are currently homeless in the wake of Katrina. Anyone who wishes to help by donating a room or offering reduced rent, please call us at the office (512) 323-0787.

Rob Weitzner of A2IM writes,
The deepest roots of American music can be traced to the area most affected by Hurricane Katrina. As we know, the events of last week have dealt a catastrophic blow to this region, it's history, and its music community. The music community is demonstrating once again its unwavering commitment and big heart when it comes to vital humanitarian relief. On behalf of the Independent Music Community, A2IM will be donating 10% of all membership dues collected during the month of September to the American Red Cross. Scores of Independent Labels have pledged their support to our newly-launched association. For all labels who have pledged their support or have been contemplating joining -- now is the time to come on board and join in aiding the effort to bring relief and comfort to this devastated area. Thank you for your commitment and your compassion.
