El Paso Community College's Music Department offers an Associate of Arts and Sciences. The program is designed for individuals interested in pursuing a career in the field of music and covers the first two years of the four-year bachelor's degree in music. Students planning to transfer to a four-year institution should check degree requirements of the institution to which they plan to transfer. The music major must complete a balanced program, including music theory, music literature, applied music and performance ensembles. In applied music, the music major must select a principal instrument and a secondary instrument. Both the principal instrument and the secondary instrument must be taken by individual instruction; the principal instrument in two credit-hour courses. Piano must be included as either the principal instrument or as the secondary instrument. The entire core curriculum is transferable to any public Texas institution of higher learning. Performance opportunities include the Concert Choir (35 members; Dr. Lucy Scarbrough 915-831-2454), the Jazz Ensemble (16 members; Thomas Fraga 915-858-2301) and a guitar ensemble. Performance facilities include the Forum at the Transmountain Campus (380 seats; Dr. Lucy Scarbrough 915-831-2454).
