TCC
is a complete university parallel leading to a major or minor in music. The emphasis
is on performance, though all courses lead to a music education degree as well.
In addition, we offer MIDI and Notation software as a main component of the program.
The various ensembles are well known throughout the North Texas area and actively
participate in several tours each year. In fact, the college choir performed at
Carnegie Hall in March of 2006. To participate in an ensemble, one does not need
to be music major, but some do require an audition. All instruments and voice
types are taught. College Choir, Madrigal Singers, College Band, Jazz Band, College
Orchestra. Contact Jay Adkinsat (817) 515-3718. C.A. Roberson Theatre, capacity
270, The Commens, capacity 100, North Ballroom, capacity 400

The
Human Performance Institute is dedicated to the multidisciplinary study of human-task
interfaces. With the University of North Texas, one focus is musician education
and health (i.e., occupational related injuries). We are investigating different
low-level performance resources (such as finger speeds, pitch discrimination,
memory, etc.), and how each contributes to the quality or level of musical performance.
Performance resource availability can increase through training or decrease through
injury or aging. Models are being developed to map changes in the measured availability
to a change in overall "music performance capacity" and ultimately assist a performer
to improve musical performance and also reduce risk of injury. Currently we have
a limited ability to provide individualized performance resource profile assessments
and are carrying out research concerning measurement and evaluation of injuries
sustained through musical activities, as well as their prevention.
