Amarillo College Department of Music offers
a two-year curriculum of courses in music theory, literature, ensembles, and applied
instruction, leading to Associate in Music degree. The Mission of the Amarillo
College Music Department is "to be a center of musical learning and cultural enrichment
within the community of Amarillo and the surrounding Panhandle of Texas, by providing
a comprehensive two-year musical curriculum for transfer students, elective courses
for the non-music major, musical training for younger students, and performance
opportunties in various ensembles for students and memebers of the community."
Performance opportunities include Concert Choir (30-40 members) and Civic Chorus
(100 members), under the direction of Dr. Steven Weber, (806) 371-5344; Jazz Ensemble
(14-20 members), Dr. Jim Laughlin, Director (806) 371-5345; Chamber Orchestra
(14-20 members), Beverly Dela Bretonne, Director, (806) 371-5342; Concert Band
(50-60 members), Dr. Jim Laughlin, and Opera/Opera Workshop, under the direction
of Ms. Mila Gibson, (806) 372-7464, with two major productions per year plus various
outreach activities. Performance facility is the Concert Hall Theater (265 seats);
