When undergraduate students at the Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston are completing their degree, they are given an usual assignment-run your own virtual business. Through the SuperCEO simulation game, created by Austin-based Fusion Learning Systems, students are expected to become the CEO of the fictional Houston Extrahuman Resource Outfitters (H.E.R.O.). They are given 12 fiscal quarters to manage and successfully run the superhero supply business, using the knowledge they have learned as a student. The program ultimately prepares students for the upcoming job market by immersing them in a cause and effect environment much like a real company would experience. Fusion Learning Systems is a premier provider of full-service,
custom learning solutions. Recently, the SuperCEO simulation won
a silver award at the 2007 Summit Creative Awards, and was featured in
the eLearning Guild's 360 report on Immersive Learning Simulations. Fusion
has also completed projects for textbook publisher Holt, Rinehart, and
Winston, including the PuzzlePro, which generates learning games
to reinforce concepts found in Holt's textbooks.
