Through a variety of methods, all of which are free, the Film Commission can make it easier for you to do business in the state.

LOCATION SCOUTING

Tell us what you're looking for and we'll find it in Texas. Our experienced location staff can be your guide to the Texas terrain. With TEXscout (SM), our Web-based location management system, we can quickly assemble and deliver a personalized location package.

Our location services can also be used by the game industry. TEXscout (SM) can be your source for custom reference photo packages. Are you looking for a location to do some audio recording, or do you need a specific location for your game cinematics? We can help you find it.

FINANCIAL INCENTIVES

The Texas Moving Image Industry Incentive Program offers qualifying feature films, television programs, commercials and video games the opportunity to receive a payment equal to 5% of eligible in-state spending, including wages paid to Texas residents, upon completion of an audit of Texas expenditures.

Under Texas law, filmmakers and video game developers in the state are recognized as manufacturers and may claim Sales Tax Exemptions on many of the items and services used in the production of your final product. If you occupy a hotel room for at least 30 consecutive days, you may be eligible to have the Hotel Occupancy Tax waived. And, you may also claim refunds for sales tax paid on Fuel Used Off-Road (think generators and boats).

PERMITS / LIAISON

In general, the State of Texas does not require film permits. However, if you're planning to shoot on public property, including parks, roads or highways, we can put you in touch with the right people to arrange permission.

Our office is your primary contact for filming on property owned by the state. We'll also be your liaison between local and federal government owned properties, navigating through many of the rules and restrictions for filming at these facilities. Texas's Regional Film Commissions are also a great local resource, and we can help connect you with them.
