NAFTA Office
The State of Texas NAFTA Office (STNO) is a branch of Office of the Governor, Economic Development & Tourism Division (EDT), which works to improve the state's economy by providing various services to Texas businesses and communities in order to be internationally competitive and by promoting Texas as a premier travel destination. Through successful and resourceful consulting, these services include providing a voice in Mexico to help businesses and communities in their efforts to export goods and services to the continuously expanding Mexican markets and promoting economic opportunity and prosperity for Texas through tourism marketing. The STNO is strategically located in Mexico City, the business capital of Mexico. Since 1971 this office has been working toward the goal of strengthening trade, investment and tourism ties between Texas and Mexico markets with specific emphasis on benefiting small and medium sized Texas businesses.
Vision
The STNO seeks to increase the level of prosperity of Texas communities and companies by helping in their efforts to export goods and services to the continuously expanding Mexico markets, and promoting investment in Texas communities. Additional emphasis is placed on working in concert with its partners (convention and visitor's bureaus, local chambers of commerce, private travel-related organizations and associations) to promote Texas as a premier travel destination by creating highly effective and measurable marketing and sales programs that target travelers, media, and the travel trade industry, thereby increasing revenues and creating jobs.
Mission
To assist and provide specialized services in the following areas:
- In the manufacturing, agribusiness and service businesses seeking to export to specific sectors of the Mexican market.
- In the hospitality industry businesses to promote their services.
- In the promotion of Mexican investment opportunities in Texas communities.
Promote Texas as a premier travel destination to the travel trade industry, media and consumers through trade shows, sales missions and educational seminars. Coordinate familiarization tours and disseminate travel trade and media leads online.
Create cooperative opportunities for Texas travel industry partners (convention and visitors bureaus, hotels, attractions, etc.) to participate in travel trade and media promotions, and consumer promotions to increase demand for the Texas travel product.
Strategic Goals
The strategic goals of the STNO form the core of its program
services.
These include:
- Provide specialized services to Texas companies-with emphasis to benefit small and medium-sized businesses to offer high value added information that facilitates exporting their products or services to Mexico
- Promote foreign investment opportunities in Texas communities interested in promoting specific geographical areas within them and/or in specific sectors of manufacturing and distribution.
- Establish the presence of Texas in the major business and economic forums in Mexico as well as promote the services of the Mexico office among Texas companies.
- Promote Texas-Mexico relations.
