National and state coverage regarding people with disabilities in the media has improved with the use of people first language and regulations covering communications accessibility.
Education
Parents and students in Texas have access to information and resource guides regarding Special Education in Texas and state and national financial aid for college students with disabilities.
Health
Texans with disabilities can: search for help across the state, learn more about certain agencies like the Texas Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation, review programs like Medicare and Medicaid , get information on health insurance plans or for children , and screen for potential eligibility for Texas social services or Social Security benefits.
Housing
Citizens have access to state and federal agencies regarding funding and other programs, as well as state and federal agencies that monitor fair public housing, regulate accessibility and guarantee human rights.
Recreation
Texans with disabilities have opportunities to buy or enjoy art by people with disabilities, participate in the arts, compete in national paralympic sports, learn about recreation access guidelines, vacation in Texas state parks, hike on accessible trails and hunt or fish with discounted licenses.
Transportation
Transportation authorities and other public/private providers serve Texans with disabilities. Texas coordinates community transportation and provides information on accessible parking.
Workforce
Texans who are blind or have other types of disabilities can get assistance in finding jobs, or information about rights or accommodations that facilitate work.
