Model Program: Technology Expo and Career Fair

Deer Park, La Porte and Pasadena Local Committee on People with Disabilities

The Deer Park, LaPorte and Pasadena Local Committee on People with Disabilities, known as The Rehabilitation Foundation, annually sponsors a technology exposition and career fair. Attended by about 500 people each year, the expo provides information, demonstrates the latest technology, and offers job opportunities.

To replicate this innovative program in your community, follow these key steps:

Form a committee of volunteers with a desire to assist people with disabilities
Develop an action plan of tasks that will need to be completed,
Identify support groups, community agencies and potential employers in the community
Appoint committee chairpersons for coordination of the facility, vendors, employers and media coverage
Disseminate information to the public on the time, date and place
Have participants critique the event to build on for the next year.
