2007 NDEAM Poster Long Description
"First Day of Spring" – Cassie Langdon
The top half of the poster is a picture of the artwork. The piece features bright colors and depicts the liveliness of the first day of spring in Texas. It shows many landscapes, including green pastures, a vineyard, and a desert scene. There are also various animals and people who show the cultural variety of the state. It also shows a mixture of architectural styles found throughout the state like adobe houses and wood cabins. There is a dirt path leading out of one of the houses, which runs down onto the bottom half of the page and directs you toward the rest of the poster.
The background of the poster is white, and all text is in a dark purple. The bottom of the poster contains biographical information about the artist:
With warmth in the air and sun in the sky, the first day of spring in Texas is filled with the notion of new beginnings. Cassie Langdon illustrates this optimism using acrylics and watercolors in her "First Day of Spring." The piece depicts the celebration of spring and all of its possibilities across the many scenes of Texas. She began painting in 1990 after a trip to Santa Fe, New Mexico, where the vibrant colors and architecture led to a desire to recreate its liveliness with paint. When Cassie was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis two years ago, she took a year off from painting, only to realize her brushes would prove to be the best medicine. She hopes that her art brings smiles to the faces of all who see it and that they will find something different each time they come back to her paintings.
Cassie dedicates "First Day of Spring" to Steve, her husband (and painting partner) of two years, her two daughters, Diane and Katy Dillingham, and George Dillingham.
