  • Artist finds art to be very liberating and believes that colors create emotion and energy
  • Artist began painting after going blind and uses primarily oil paints
  • John states, "When I run my hands over an object and feel the textures, my mind is filled with the colors of paints that have a similar texture."
  • Artist enjoys teaching elementary students his tactile painting method
  • Plans to pursue his PhD in English with creative writing concentration
  • While his ultimate goal is teaching college level students he is now pursuing a master's degree from UNT
  • Artist fondly remembers his grandmother singing in the church located in Addison which was torn down years ago
  • The painting is in loving memory of Ruth Bramblitt, a woman John considers to be "a True Texas Lady"

Painting is of an older church that is primarily white with shades of pink and hints of gray. The steeple is a vibrant red. In the forefront there is grass and a tree. The background is composed of varying blues (sky, navy, and royal) with clouds of white. There is also a black and white photograph highlighting the artist standing in front of his original painting. The photograph was taken by Katherine Frye, NT Daily.
