Selected Cities and Counties
The Governor's Committee on People with Disabilities conducted telephone surveys of selected Texas cities and counties. The Committee surveyed 43 smaller Texas counties, ranging in size from Bell County (population 225,513) to Foard County (population, 1,852). The Committee also surveyed 88 smaller Texas cities, ranging in size from Killeen (population 82,145) to Gun Barrel City (population 4,233).
Both cities and counties reported undertaking steps to remove barriers, such as repairing sidewalks, constructing ramps, modifying bathrooms, and lowering water fountains. Cities and counties also provided ADA accommodations for employees, such as installing assistive technology software on computers, restructuring jobs for employees, and purchasing accessible office furniture.
