Texas First Lady Anita Perry emphasizes the importance of women's health

Texas First Lady Anita Perry emphasizes the importance of women's health and preventative healthcare during her keynote address at the national HPV and Cervical Cancer Summit in Atlanta, Georgia. The event, hosted by Women In Government, is the largest cervical cancer gathering to date of U.S. state legislators, medical experts, public health officials and advocates.

Texas First Lady Anita Perry stands with Dr. Mary Lou Adams of the University of Texas Community Women’s Wellness Center to highlight breast cancer awareness. The first lady presented Dr. Adams with a proclamation from Gov. Rick Perry declaring October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Texas. The first lady was joined by Commissioner of Health Dr. Eduardo Sanchez, representatives from the American Cancer Society, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, the Texas Cancer Council and the Governor’s Commission for Women, and breast cancer survivors.

Texas First Lady Anita Perry joined with the Texas Council on Family Violence

Texas First Lady Anita Perry joined with the Texas Council on Family Violence on the steps of the state capitol to highlight October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Texas. The first lady helped announce a 25 percent reduction in the number of 2004 domestic violence victims. 115 life-size wooden figures, representing the Texas family violence victims of 2004, stood on the capitol grounds.
